CSC wants to recruit more Uni.lu alumni
Timing is everything. In early 2023, as implementation of the alumni platform began, the Alumni Network was looking for partners to test the jobs. At the same time, CSC, a global provider of business and compliance solutions that acquired Intertrust Group in 2022, reached out to find out “if there was an opportunity to work together with alumni looking for career opportunities in Luxembourg.”
Why did the company choose to be part of this adventure and what are they looking for from applicants? “As a leader, it’s important to choose strong partners and consider our organization’s image in the community and worldwide,” explains Saskia Baudet (pictured on the left), a senior manager of Talent Acquisition at CSC who leads a team of 10 recruiters located throughout Europe. “The University of Luxembourg is a valuable partner for CSC because we share values and attributes like an international presence, diversity, and the pursuit of excellence.”
According to Saskia, that the University is multicultural and international with people coming to study from around the world was also a factor. “After graduation, many students want to stay in Luxembourg. CSC is multicultural and diverse and has an international footprint—some of the many things I love about working here. Someone who enjoys the atmosphere of the University of Luxembourg will appreciate working at CSC after graduation. CSC is a company focused on upholding its values, and those values align with the University of Luxembourg’s values. So this partnership makes sense.”
She noted that CSC’s corporate headquarters is in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. “We’re now more than 8,000 people strong globally and have many professional opportunities. There’s room for people to grow and have a successful career here. University of Luxembourg alumni are looking for place where they’ll have the chance to develop themselves and grow in their career and they’ll find it with CSC.”
When asked about her experience with the Alumni Network’s new platform, Saskia said, “It’s very user friendly. The priority is to help people connect. It also respects GDPR which is particularly important to us. It’s wonderful as a concept. I really like it and I’m impressed with the technological progress of the University, it’s dynamic.”
What does the company want to see from applicants, and how might Uni.lu alumni meet their requirements? The main profile that CSC is looking for in terms of technical skills is a background in economics, finance, or law. “The most important aspect for CSC, however, is not the “what” but the “how”,” Saskia stresses. “It’s a value-based company that values agility and team spirit. This is more important for us than specific skills, and it’s what we’re looking for in candidates. It’s also why I feel that students from the University of Luxembourg match very well with our values. If they’re successful at the University of Luxembourg, they can be successful at our company as well.”
Depending on the position, CSC hires recent graduates as well as more experienced professionals. “There are plenty of opportunities and we’re happy to help people without a lot of experience gain expertise and grow,” says Saskia. “We also have development programs for recent graduates. If they want to join the company and they share the same values, we may have position for them regardless of their level of experience.”
An example of a recent Uni.lu graduate hired by the company is Katerina Dimopoulou (pictured on the right), who was recruited right after finishing her masters in Space, Telecommunication, and Media Law, and is now working as a senior relationship manager, Legal and Corporate Services at CSC. “It’s a young, dynamic, and fast-paced environment, and it’s interesting to be able to work with people from all around the world,” Katerina shares. “We all have equal opportunities and are treated equally and feel that our voices are heard. Respect is a core value here and the company embraces an international environment. You get the support that’s needed and have the potential to grow, to level up, and be exposed to different areas of business. You broaden your horizons. It’s an interesting place to work!”
