They Found Love at Uni.lu
2024 graduates Kim Vasiljevic and Sammy Braun both embarked on their academic journey in Psychology at the University of Luxembourg in 2018. Their paths crossed in the same course, and little did they know, it would be the beginning of a beautiful love story.
Kim recalls the first time she saw Sammy. She was immediately intrigued and told a friend she wanted to talk to him. As fate would have it, they moved into the same building and discovered a shared love for 50s chic clothing style. Their connection was instant.
On 2 October 2018, less than one month into their studies, that instant connection blossomed into a relationship that is still going strong more than 6 years later. Reflecting on their journey, Sammy shared, “It is the first relationship where we realised that to have a long lasting relationship we have to put in real work.”
The couple also acknowledges that their biggest growth came out of overcoming their biggest fights.

Being two psychologists in a relationship has its unique dynamics. “It helps to have a lot of empathy on both sides, but we also often say, ‘Can it be that you react in this way for these reasons?’ which I don’t particularly like,” Sammy admitted. Kim added, “Especially people who studied psychology are more likely to be those who are interested in other people and can listen well.”

Over the years, their relationship has become a model for others, with friends often seeking their advice now.
“People ask me for relationship advice, which means that our couple is doing well,” Sammy said with a smile. Both are equally optimistic about their future, confidently stating, “We will definitely get married and have kids one day.”
As Kim pursues her PhD abroad and Sammy continues his Master’s at Uni.lu, their love remains strong, proving that - like many of our alumni - they truly found love at the University of Luxembourg.

Kim and Sammy's Top 5
Best couple memory linked to Uni.lu
That they were lucky to live in the same student accomodation, because that made it easy to see each other often, e.g. to prepare together for the Halloween Party in 2018. (see photo above)
Worst fight
Being During Kim’s stay abroad in Canada in 2020, their relationship was put to the test. Being physically apart made them question their bond, and they often argued over trivial things. Additionally, the time difference didn’t make things any easier.
Best make-up present
Simple things like a warm beverage can be the best gift. It’s not about expensive presents but about the little gestures that show they truly know what makes each other happy.
Favorite place for a date on campus
Chrëscht Chalet by Joslet when it was there, now Coyote Café in Belval.
Best German relationship phrase that doesn't translate to English
"Aus einer Mücke einen Elefanten machen". Literally turning a fly into an elephant. For those who currently can't access a translation, it's close to "making a mountain out of a molehill".
What they want young couples to know
Sammy: "Young couples should know that they don’t have to do everything together and should also pursue their own interests independently."
Kim: "You’ll never find the "perfect" partner. For a momentary spark to grow into lasting love, it takes effort, patience, mutual compromise and playfulness."
