Turning Startup Dreams into Reality – The Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme

Published September 23, 2022

The University of Luxembourg Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme feels more like a dream factory than anything else. A founding partner of the GradPack programme, the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme has supported over 3,000 students and alumni for the past 5 years as they turn their business ideas into successful startups.

Innovation and More

For the staff like Liza Shliakhova “Supporting the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme allows me to do what I like most in life: helping young talent reach for their dreams. We truly support some of the brightest minds of the University as being an entrepreneur you have to be creative, agile, courageous, and innovative at the same time.”

So, by providing Uni.lu's brightest minds (both student and alumni) with master classes, resources, mentorships, and summer entrepreneurship training from over 300 industry leaders, the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme have built a safe space where starting a business does not feel like risking everything.

Events

The Entrepreneurship Programme prepares students and alumni to run a business while the Incubator is where that preparation becomes a reality. To get the creative juices flowing, they host the My Big Idea competition, followed by the four-day long Ideation Camp. My Big Idea will be launched on October 1st . The competition allows teams of entrepreneurs to submit their future business ideas or even just develop new ones and gives students and alumni who want to test those big ideas out the chance to win €1,000.

But there’s more at stake than €1,000. The best teams and entrepreneurs from My Big Idea are then invited to compete and participate in the Ideation Camp, with the eventual winners receiving €10,000 to invest in their start-up. The course is meant to turn students into skilled entrepreneurs, allow them to meet top business leaders, and refine their business idea into something that can go far.

Alumni Startup Success Stories

And some businesses that have come out of the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme go very far.

Magrid Learning Solution was founded by Uni.lu alumna Tahereh Pazouki who turned her PhD into a successful educational business that is one of the top 40 winners in the MIT SOLVE Challenge!

Besides having a great idea, Tahereh was helped along by the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme and said that "if you recently graduated from Uni.lu, you have all the tools and support you need to succeed as an entrepreneur."

Benefits for Alumni

The Incubator is where entrepreneurs actually turn their idea for a business into a successful start-up. By giving Uni.lu alumni and student start-ups benefits like office space for just €1 a month and free access to Amazon Web Services, the Incubator gives early start-ups the critical support they need to succeed. The Incubator realizes that there is not a one-size fits all solution, so help is given to those that need it the most, tailoring their help to the start-ups that need it and where they need it.

There are so many programmes and opportunities that the Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme make available to anyone currently at Uni.lu as well as recent graduates (from the past two years), but it only takes one email to get started. Anyone can apply by sending an email to incubator@uni.lu and requesting a meeting with the management.

Meeting them is a low-stress environment. They will help you by checking the feasibility of a business idea and presenting you with resources like training and workshops. The Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme know that no two businesses are the same and that there is no “one-size-fits-all” path to Luxembourg’s next great start-up!
