Luxembourg Underground Tour

Many of you may have already visited the Casemates in Luxembourg City, but did you know that they are only part of a series of former fortifications carved in the rock by the Spanish, French, Austrian and Prussian garrisons that once occupied “Fortress” Luxembourg, the “Gibraltar of the North”?

Those fortifications, once meant for defending the city, are NOT open to the public but will be open to Uni.lu Alumni on our upcoming private Luxembourg Underground tour.

On this tour you will discover the centuries-old defensive tunnels under Luxembourg’s capital and “walk” Luxembourg history underground. Some of these hidden structures even served as emergency air raid shelters during World War II. Among the specific places we should be visiting on this tour:

Before signing up, please be aware of the following conditions:

• Do not sign up if you are claustrophobic!
• You will need good walking shoes to irregular and bumpy floors and stairs
• Appropriate clothing due to the 10 degree temperature and high humidity inside the tunnels
• You will need to bring a flashlight (with a full battery 😀) as it is almost completely dark inside
